Sometimes you have to experiment. I shot several images, changing ISO settings and/or exposure time to get just the reflection that I like the best. Enjoy and keep on photographing!

 

I photographed these reflections at the edge of the Sacramento river. I converted the image to monochrome to put an emphasis on the structure of the image.

I tried to create the look of a 100 year old post card. By the way this is Old Town Sacramento, where I photographed last week-end.

Try something new. Photograph at night for black and white images. Envision how the image would look like in monochrome when you look through your viewfinder! Remember always record your image in color and then convert it in post production.

Fluorescent lights are great subjects. If you need an idea what to photograph at night, go to your local downtown and look for a movie theater and usually you will find some great lights there.

This morning was the perfect time for photographing the blood moon. Since the moon is moving rather quickly a relatively short exposure time of around one second gets the best result. I found it is better to increase the ISO setting than to shoot at a longer exposure time.

I used a 30mm lens at f2.8, one second exposure time at ISO 400 to photograph the boats at pier 39 in San Francisco. In the background you see Coit tower in San Francisco.

It is getting dark early in the northern hemisphere giving us the opportunity to photograph at night. Don’t forget to take a tripod when you photograph. Also, try adjusting your exposure time by shooting in manual mode. The light meter in the camera might not pick your best exposure time. As always, enjoy this exercise.

This is an image of the new Bay Bridge connecting Oakland, CA with San Francisco, CA. I used several aperture and exposure setting to get the shot.

This is work in progress and sometimes you need to change your composition. While I was working on this image I suddenly thought that the upper right image does not fit. I think I have to replace it with a different image. Will see what I can come up with.
