I photographed these Filipino dancers on union Square. I tried to catch the joy and the love for life in this image.

Photographing moving people can be tricky. Generally speaking, in the composition you want to give them space in the direction they are walking towards. In this image the lady is walking from the right towards the left. Therefor I gave her lot’s of space on the left hand side. Also, watch the feet. It is nice if you get the shot when one foot is in the air.

I just loved to observe how this young couple exchanged their cell phone content. This is another example how much the cell phone changed our appearance in public.

This is an elderly gentleman that was looking for empty bottles in the streets of San Francisco. I feel sorry for him. I believe at his age he should enjoy retirement without worrying about food on the table. Sometimes your own photography makes you think, doesn’t it?

It is still amazing to me how much the cell phone has changed our lives and the subjects we photograph in the streets. This typical image was not there 20 years ago. by the way, I like the warm – cold color contrast as well.

When you photograph people in the streets the background is important. I photographed this gentleman by putting him in relationship with this young lady sitting on the top left of the image. I closed the lens down to f4.5. I wanted her to be partially blurred in the image. This can be tricky sometimes. If you close too much down everything will be somehow in focus and if you open up too much you will get a too much blurred background. Sometimes it pays to try different f-stops for your composition.

Photographing interesting people in the streets n one of my favorite exercise. It is relatively easy to do and you are not expected to carry a few strobes and umbrellas with you. You need to work the light conditions that you have.  I rarely use even a fill-in flash. It is more important to photograph the actions, the mood and the feelings of the situation.

I photographed this gentleman in San Francisco. I just loved his demeanor. Enjoy this exercise and keep on photographing!
