Decorations 06

I like to re-visit an exercise that I did five years ago. I challenge you again to photograph Christmas decorations. They are almost everywhere in the Christian culture. try to go beyond the obvious. Do more than just click. Do extensive post-processing and use your software as a tool to create some very special images.

Decorations 06

I photographed this image at the McHenry Mansion in Modesto, CA. The house is beautifully decorated but relatively dark. Since I was not allowed to use a tripod I had to set my ISO to 1000 and my 85mm prime lens to f2.o. I post-production I used several filters until I finally arrived at this image. Did you notice that your eyes will almost automatically go to the one ornament that is almost in the middle. Where do they wander from there? Notice also how important the surface structure of the ornaments are!

Enjoy and keep on photographing.

Frost 02

Frost 02

I was lucky finding this deeply frozen leaf on the lawn. I took six exposures with different f-stops to find the best depth of field that would reveal the most out of the frozen ice crystals. I posy production I increased contrast on the highlights to even further reveal the structure of the crystals.

Enjoy and keep on photographing!
