Arrested Decay

The ‘ghost’ town of Bodie is a California State Park. The state’s mission is to keep it in arrested decay. Obviously some parts are more arrested than others.\

Die Geisterstadt Bodie ist ein California State Park. Die Mission des Staates ist es, ihn im verfallenen Verfall zu halten. Offensichtlich sind einige Teile mehr verhaftet als andere.

Herrenhaus

Dieses imposante Herrenhaus ließen sich die Brüder Schoenfeld, wohlhabende Steinmetze, 1893 in Blankenburg/Harz errichten. Dieser sehr dekorative Baustil mit Erkern und Türmchen war zu dieser Zeit sehr beliebt. 1998 aufwändig saniert, beherbergt das Gebäude heute das Hotel Viktoria Luise.
This imposing manor house was built in 1893 by the Schoenfeld brothers, wealthy stonemasons, in Blankenburg/Harz. This very decorative architectural style with oriels and turrets was very popular at that time. In 1998, the building was extensively renovated and today houses the Hotel Viktoria Luise.

Monastery architecture

Diese barocke Klosteranlage entstand ab 1699 in Benediktbeuern / Oberbayern. Das ursprüngliche Kloster ist jedoch wesentlich älter. Die Ursprünge reichen bis ins Jahr 725 zurück.
This baroque monastery complex was built from 1699 onwards in Benediktbeuern / Upper Bavaria. However, the original monastery is considerably older. The origins go back to the year 725.

Miner’s Bunkhouse

This quarter’s post is architecture and although it may not fit everybody’s definition of that term, I have a deep affection for old buildings and structures. This is a bunkhouse for an old mine that used to operate in the Sierra’s called the Sweetwater mine . The mine operated from the mid 1860’s to the mid 1990’s when it’s owner passed away. The old building has been severely vandalized in recent years and most of the other structures have fallen down and equipment either stolen or donated to the local Museum. Enjoy your day. Two for One

The theme this week was architecture. A lot of different ideas came to mind. Then I remembered this photo I took seven years ago. It has both modern and 19th century styles. I’m not sure what the building with the glass/plastic panels is used for but the building in reflection is the old Merced County Courthouse now a very good museum.

Das Thema dieser Woche war Architektur. Viele verschiedene Ideen kamen mir in den Sinn. Dann erinnerte ich mich an dieses Foto, das ich vor sieben Jahren gemacht hatte. Es hat sowohl moderne als auch Stil des 19. Jahrhunderts. Ich bin nicht sicher, wofür das Gebäude mit den Glas- / Kunststoffplatten verwendet wird, aber das reflektierende Gebäude ist das alte Gerichtsgebäude von Merced County, das heute ein sehr gutes Museum ist.
