Hyder – Alaska

Isolated from the mainland of Alaska – on the eastern side of the Misty Fjords National Monument is a little town named Hyder.

It is accessible by road only from Stewart in Western British Columbia or via the Portland Canal from the Pacific Ocean.

With a population of around 50 people, the residents are mostly connected with Stewart right across the border.

Herausgeputzt

Etwas versteckt geparkt, habe ich diesen schick zurecht gemachten VW Golf GTI entdeckt. Ich bin kein Experte, aber der Wagen müsste auf der heute seltenen Serie 1 basieren und damit im Kern gut und gerne 40 Jahre alt sein.

Parked in a somewhat hidden spot, I spotted this smartly finished VW Golf GTI. I’m no expert, but the car should be based on the now rare Series 1 and therefore be a good 40 years old at its core.

Klein aber oho!

Diese kleine Ameise ist ein richtiger Kraftprotz. Ich habe sie eine ganze Weile dabei beobachtet, wie sie sich an meiner Balkonwand unermüdlich mit einem Kornblumensamen abgemüht hat. Beeindruckend!

This little ant is a real powerhouse. I watched it for quite a while as it tirelessly struggled with a cornflower seed on my balcony wall. Impressive!
