Heute mal wieder etwas aus der Experimentier- und Spielecke. Wie der Titel schon sagt, ist das Thema hier das Malen mit Licht. Wer sich also mal künstlerisch austoben möchte, dem sei diese Technik empfohlen. Obendrein eine sehr entspannende Sache, wie ich finde.
Today something from the experiment and play corner. As the title suggests, the theme here is painting with light. So if you want to let off steam artistically, this technique is recommended. It’s also very relaxing, in my opinion.
Auch wenn es der typisch weiß/graue norddeutsche Himmel nicht vermuten lässt, so kommt doch genug Sonnenlicht durch, um die Tulpen im Wolfsburger Barockgarten zum leuchten zu bringen.
Even if the typical white/grey North German sky doesn’t suggest it, there is still enough sunlight coming through to make the tulips in Wolfsburg’s Baroque Garden shine.
In den letzten Tagen wehen Tiefausläufer verstärkt feinen Sand und Staub aus der Sahara zu uns. Das ergibt eine sehr spezielle, irgendwie surreale Lichtstimmung. So eine Mischung aus Softbox und Gelbfilter. Weniger schön ist, dass sich das ganze Zeug überall auf Autos und Fensterscheiben absetzt.
In the last few days, low pressure systems have been blowing fine sand and dust from the Sahara towards us. This results in a very special, somehow surreal lighting mood. A mixture of softbox and yellow filter. What’s less nice is that all this stuff settles all over cars and windows.
Das Besondere an der AutoStadt in Wolfsburg ist die Präsentation der durchaus wertvollen Oldtimer an ungewöhnlichen Orten. So wie dieser Samba-Bus aus dem Jahr 1966, der in einem der Shops steht. Mit weit geöffneten Türen wird er als Verkaufsfläche für Fanartikel, oder Accessoires rund ums Auto in den Shop und damit in den Alltag einbezogen.
The special thing about AutoStadt in Wolfsburg is the presentation of valuable classic cars in unusual places. Like this Samba bus from 1966, which is parked in one of the stores. With its doors wide open, it is integrated into the store and thus into everyday life as a sales area for fan articles or car-related accessories.
Dieser sehr schön zurecht gemachte Oldtimer Lieferwagen stand vor kurzem vor dem Phaeno, unserem Science Center in Wolfsburg, als Werbefahrzeug. Ich dachte so, vor mehr als 50 Jahren, als dieser Ford Transit gebaut wurde, hätte sich niemand danach umgedreht. Wie sich die Zeiten wandeln. Heute ist er ein Schmuckstück und Blickfang.
This beautifully restored vintage van was recently parked in front of the Phaeno, our science center in Wolfsburg, as an advertising vehicle. I thought that more than 50 years ago, when this Ford Transit was built, nobody would have looked at it. How times change. Today it’s a gem and an eye-catcher.
Ich hätte das Bild auch “vor Saisonbeginn” nennen können, denn noch ist das Mühlenmuseum in Gifhorn geschlossen. Eine gute Gelegenheit also, um bei einem Spaziergang rund um das Gelände die ruhige Atmosphere auf sich wirken zu lassen. Und wie man sieht, hat das Wetter auch mitgespielt. Glücklicherweise haben wir abschließend noch entdeckt, dass die Gastronomie doch schon geöffnet hatte, so dass wir uns bei Kaffee und Kuchen noch stärken konnten.
I could have called the picture “before the start of the season”, because the mill museum in Gifhorn is still closed. A good opportunity to take a walk around the grounds and soak up the tranquil atmosphere. And as you can see, the weather played along. Fortunately, we discovered that the restaurant was already open, so we were able to fortify ourselves with coffee and cake.
Darf ich vorstellen: der Wolf, das Wappentier unserer Stadt und das Maskottchen unseres Fußballvereins VfL Wolfsburg. Leider passt zur Zeit der Tabellenplatz nicht zu der Bezeichnung “Wölfe”.
May I introduce: the wolf, the heraldic animal of our city and the mascot of our soccer club VfL Wolfsburg. Unfortunately, the club’s current position in the table does not match the name “wolves”.

Ich finde, Bilder in Schwarz/Weiß unterstreichen in solchen Architekturaufnahmen noch mal besonders die kühle, funktionale Technik der Bauten. Als Kontrast dazu: der Baum im Hintergrund und der Stein im Vordergrund, der keck aus der Kiesfläche herausragt. Zu perfekt soll es nun auch nicht sein.
I find that pictures in black and white emphasize the cool, functional technology of the buildings in such architectural shots. As a contrast: the tree in the background and the stone in the foreground, which juts out boldly from the gravel surface. It shouldn’t be too perfect either.
Bei normaler Beleuchtung würde man den Fahrstuhl und die Drehtür wahrscheinlich nur beiläufig wahrnehmen. Technik halt, funktional, aus Glas und kühlem Stahl. Und dann scheint die Abendsonne für wenige Minuten im richtigen Winkel darauf und man sieht plötzlich ein ganz anderes Bild.
In normal lighting, you would probably only notice the elevator and the revolving door in passing. Just technology, functional, made of glass and cool steel. And then the evening sun shines on it at the right angle for a few minutes and you suddenly see a completely different picture.
