Laut schnatternd flog diese Gruppe Graugänse heute am späten Nachmittag über uns hinweg und setzte zum “Landanflug” auf ihre Futterwiese an.
Loudly chattering, this group of gray geese flew overhead late this afternoon and made a “landing approach” to their feeding meadow.
So der wissenschaftliche Name der Weinbergschnecke. Dieses Exemplar hatte sich auf einen Fußweg durch den Ilkerbruch, einem Naturschutzgebiet in unserer Nähe, verirrt. Sicherheitshalber hatte sich die Schnecke in ihr Schneckenhaus zurückgezogen. Also konnten wir nur ihr Haus fotografieren. Ist ja auch ganz schön.
This is the scientific name of the Roman snail. This specimen had strayed onto a footpath through the Ilkerbruch, a nature reserve near us. To be on the safe side, the snail had retreated into its snail shell. So we could only photograph its house. It is also quite beautiful.
Meine Nachbarin hatte dieses Jahr verschiedene Sorten von Sonnenblumen in unserem Vorgarten am Haus angepflanzt. War ein toller Anblick. Leider ist die Pracht mittlerweile schon verblüht.
My neighbor had planted several varieties of sunflowers in our front yard by the house this year. It was a great sight. Unfortunately, the splendor is now already faded.
Dieser schöne Blumenstrauss stand im Eingangsbereich des Klosters Isenhagen. Alle verwendeten Pflanzen gibt es so nur in der Übergangszeit zwischen Sommer und Herbst. Ich finde, damit hat man sehr schön den Wechsel der Jahreszeit dargestellt.
This beautiful bouquet of flowers stood in the entrance area of the monastery Isenhagen. All the plants used are so only in the transitional period between summer and autumn. I think, with it one has represented very beautifully the change of the season.
Die Bratwurst! Geradezu der Klassiker auf dem privaten Grill, wie auch auf jedem Volksfest. Mit Brot oder Brötchen und natürlich, je nach Geschmack, mit einem Klecks Senf oder Ketchup.

So ein Verkaufsmarkt für Kunst- und Dekorationsobjekte aller Art für Heim und Garten bietet naturgemäß auch viele Fotomotive. Besonders witzig fand ich diese Gänsehälse aus Keramik, die man in Blumenkästen stecken kann. Das Ganze war auf einer kleinen Mauer aufgebaut, so dass man das Motiv gegen den Gewitterhimmel aufnehmen konnte.
Such a sales market for art and decorative objects of all kinds for home and garden naturally also offers many photo motifs. Especially funny I found these ceramic goose necks that you can put in flower boxes. The whole thing was built on a small wall, so you could take the motif against the stormy sky.
So eine Schmiede in Aktion hat schon etwas Faszinierendes. Der Geruch nach Kohle und die Hitze des Feuers, dazu das glühende Eisen, dass die Schmiede mit wenigen Hammerschlägen formen, ergibt ein irgendwie urtümliches Bild.
There is something fascinating about a forge in action. The smell of coal and the heat of the fire, plus the glowing iron that the blacksmiths form with a few blows of the hammer, makes for a somehow primal image.
Moderne Kunst in und um alte Gemäuer, so könnte man das Motto vom Kunstmuseum Schloss Derneburg (nahe Hildesheim) nennen. Anke und ich waren Anfang des Monats dort und haben uns mal die Ausstellung rund um das Schloss und im Schlosspark angeschaut. Mich haben die Glasstelen des Künstlers Jeppe Hein besonders fasziniert.
Modern art in and around old walls, so you could call the motto of the art museum Derneburg Castle (near Hildesheim). Anke and I were there at the beginning of the month and have looked at the exhibition around the castle and in the castle park. I was particularly fascinated by the glass steles of the artist Jeppe Hein.
Anke und ich sind vor einigen Tagen an der Aller entlang gelaufen. Aber die üppige bewachsene Flusslandschaft mit den grasenden Schafen täuscht. Die Aller, die auf Wolfsburger Gebiet noch Wasser führt, ist nur wenige Kilometer weiter östlich schon ausgetrocknet. Auch bei uns in Deutschland ist es mittlerweile viel zu trocken.
Anke and I walked along the Aller a few days ago. But the lush overgrown river landscape with grazing sheep is deceptive. The Aller, which still carries water on Wolfsburg territory, has already dried up just a few kilometers further east. Here in Germany, too, it is now far too dry.
So ein Wassertunnel, wie dieser in der Autostadt in Wolfsburg, ist gerade das Richtige bei hochsommerlichen Temperaturen.
