This regal heron was posed on an elevated mound for me at the Merced Wildlife Refuge. And the tall dried plant framed him beautifully.

Harlequin Lupine
Lupine’s come in many varieties that are different shades of lavender and purple and sometimes pink but he Harlequin has the most unique coloring with its mix of yellow, pink, lavender and purple. It is not as common or abundant as the ones usually seen growing in the fields of the mid to higher elevations of the Sierra-Nevada so it is always a lovely surprise.
