It started to rain yesterday and we are thrilled about the rain in California. The rain will help the firefighters that are battling huge fires and the rain will clean the air we breathe.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Es hat gestern angefangen zu regnen und wir sind begeistert vom Regen in Kalifornien. Der Regen hilft den Feuerwehrleuten, die gegen große Feuer kämpfen, und der Regen reinigt die Atemluft.
Happy Thanksgiving!
When I walked outside early this morning I noticed that the light was very soft. I grabbed my 180mm macro lens, camera and tripod and photographed the trumpet vine blossoms in my back yard. The yellow purple contrast was striking to me, In order to emphasize the contrast even more I used a very narrow depth of field and in addition I spot sharpened the yellow part.

I decided to dig out my fisheye lens and take it with me for my early morning walk. I found these flowers blooming in the front yard and I brought the lens less than an inch in front of the flower and opened the lens all the way to f2.8. I was curious what kind of background blur I would get.

I took seven exposures of a Fortnight Lily which is currently in full bloom in Central California. I carefully overlaid these images aligning them and choosing about a 35-50% transparency. To correct the colors I edited the image in the LAB color space and finally applied a Topaz art filter.

I am currently using all kind of techniques to photograph Spring flowers. In this image I used a wide open 50mm lens to create a very shallow depths of field. I got the center of the yellow flower sharp and I enhanced the sharpness just in the center in post production to create an even larger contrast. I addition I applied a painting filter on an extra layer to blur the rest of the image just a little bit.

This blog is about ideas and techniques. We share and we challenge each other to photograph and to photograph again and to start all over again. Here is a cool idea. Use a little glass ball and start photographing. You will see the world differently and you will have some fun!

Water is precious in California. We were happy about the rain last night. It was not very much but it cleared the air somewhat. I noticed the beautiful light this morning and I decided to photograph the rose in my front yard. I used a white reflector to illuminate the rose from the bottom.
Enjoy and keep on working on your images!
