Wildflowers 05

Wildflower 05

When photographing a subject, any subject, it is important that it stands out. In this image one and only one wildflower blossom is totally sharp. It is our “hero” and our eyes trend to rest here. It is in the hands of the photographer to lead the viewer!

Enjoy and keep on photographing!

I like color contrast in my images. I purposely picked the orange poppy as part of the composition because it creates a nice contrast to the blue flowers. In addition I picked a f5.6 aperture setting which created a small depth of field in my 180mm macro lens. I needed the small depth of field because if the poppy would have been sharp the eyes would have focused on the poppy and not on the small blue flowers.

2016 is the year of the wildflowers in California. Just drive up into the foothills or even along the highways you wild find wildflowers in abundance. So, get your camera out, look for them, study them in different light situations and photograph them.

I photographed these lupins in the foothills around Pine Flat Lake using a 60mm prime lens at f4.
