Postkartenidylle

So richtig schön kitschig.
I was a few days ago in our neighboring state of Saxony-Anhalt on the road and ended up in Weferlingen. The place is not large, but offers some interesting motifs. Above is the St. Lamberti Church and the Aller River to see, below the castle ruins of Weferlingen. For the image composition was here for me the typical postcard look virtually. So really nice and kitschy.

Oklahoma City National Memorial

“We come here to remember those who were killed, those who survived and those changed forever.” The Field of Empty Chairs represents the 168 people who lost their lives at 9:02 am on April 19, 1995 in the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Building in Oklahoma City. The chairs are placed in 9 rows representing the 9 floors of the building and the specific floor on which each person was located at the time of the bombing. Five separate chairs honor those who were killed outside the building. The wall behind the Chairs is the only remaining part of the original building. The reflecting pool is bordered on one end by a wall engraved 9:01 am, the last moment of innocence for our country, and the other end shown in this picture (9:03 am), the moment of aftermath and hope for the future.

All you need is law

In the late 1950’s and early 1960’s the german company Grünenthal Chemie marketed the use of thalidomide under the name contergan as a medication useful against morning sickness, sleeplessness and anxiety. It was also used as a sedative for pregnant women, although it was never tested on this particular group. The use of contergan led to numerous miscarriages and birth defects, in particular severe deformations of the limbs. The reason was an enantiomeric impurity, which was difficult to detect with the means of the time. There were 10,000 victims in 46 countries. It took a long time and numerous law suits to get at least financial compensation for the victims.

A man with deformed arms walks up the staircase of the metro station Eberswalder Strasse in Berlin. By pure coincidence, the sign above the entrance has an advertisement for a law firm “all you need is law”

Dogwood

Every spring I try to get out to take pictures of the Dogwood. This year instead of focusing on Yosemite, I decided to look in some of the areas I have been exploring this past year, the Sierra National Forest. I came across this gorgeous specimen. It was located in a valley that was densely shaded and moist. A couple of ray’s of sunlight managed to break through the canopy and provide the perfect lighting for this young bloom. Dogwoods add beauty to wherever they chose to call home. Have a Wonderful Mother’s Day. Stay happy and healthy.
