In this image I like you to study the lines that were carved by the elements. Notice that I did not put the large vertical line into the center of the image. Do you know why?

This week I ask you to continue to photograph rocks. Maybe you do what I did, you go to a different location and photograph rocks.
Last weeks images were from the Alabama Hills located on the east side of the Sierra Nevada. This weeks images are from Point Lobos, south of Carmel, CA at the Pacific coast. There are many beautiful rocks embedded in larger stone. The small rocks are very colorful and full of structure.

Walking in the Alabama hills can get hot in the Summer time, but it is definitely worth it. There are so many photo opportunities that you need to take your time and carefully compose your shot. In this image I like the structure of the rocks and how the sunlight creates interesting shadows.

Three years ago we photographed small rocks in a studio setting. This time I ask you to go outside and photograph rocks. Watch the light and the shadows! Take a look at the structure and don’t forget to have fun with this exercise!
I crossed Tioga pass and drove to a relatively small area called the Alabama hills, outside Lone Pine, CA. Many western have been filmed there in the 1950s and 60s. I found very interesting rock formations and even a few arches in this unique high desert landscape. Enjoy and create some great images!
