Frost 01

We are currently having a cold spell in central California meaning frosty morning and beautiful warm afternoons. The frosty mornings present an excellent opportunity to go out early in the morning and photograph the surface frost. So I challenge you to do the same, get up early, go outside and photograph the frost.

I used a 100mm macro lens to create this image. the lens was mounted on a tripod and I triggered the camera through my smart phone to avoid any camera shake. I usually shoot three to four exposures with different f-stops to get different degrees of camera blur. I also focused manually to determine exactly the sharpest point in the image.

As always, enjoy the image and have fun with this exercise.

I used an 85mm prime lens at f2.0 to create this image. I love to photograph with this lens since I am able to create beautiful out of focus (so called bokeh) blurs.

Since next week is Thanksgiving and Black Friday we will take a break and continue on 11-30-2015. Enjoy the time with your family and create some great memories and pieces of art with your camera!

Precipitation 01

It is raining in the Central California Valley and it is snowing in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. After four years of drought it is a welcome change and a great opportunity to create some great images. So I challenge you to go out into the rain or the snow and photograph. As always, enjoy this exercise and don’t forget to protect your camera from too much moisture.

Precipitation 01

I did this exercise in Yosemite valley. At the lower parts there was rain and in the higher elevation there was snow. The interesting area was the in between where the precipitation came down in form of snow but did not stick. Enjoy this image which I took in front of the Ahwahnee hotel.
