I photographed these cacti at the University of California Botanical Garden in Berkeley, CA. If you are in the area I highly recommend to visit this beautiful garden.

February is in Central California the time when the trees are starting to bloom. This creates endless opportunities for great images. I used a fill in flash to illuminate the blossoms. Using a flash makes the blossoms really stand out. Most of the time I used a manual exposure setting or as an alternative one can also set the manual override to -1 in aperture priority. Then you can play with the strobe setting. I would start with +1 to compensate the -1 on the camera.

Springtime is a wonderful time to photograph and to experiment. I am currently photographing with an old Russian lens which produces a wonderful background blur. Also, this image is edited on my little Android tablet. Currently I am learning to edit images on a much smaller device that I can take with my wherever I go.
Enjoy!
This is Slinky, our tomcat. he was watching closely what I was doing with this strange instrument called camera in my hands. I was holding the camera close to the ground using a 60mm prime lens at f2.8. The strobe was on a stand creating a beautiful omni-directional light.
