Joy and Friendship

When the assignment for ‘Emotion’ was given I almost immediately thought of the smile on these folks faces. They’re actually all contributors to this blog. Far left is Friedhelm, then Dorothy and finally one of our newest members, Valerie. It was a great day and I hope we can do it again soon.

Als der Auftrag für ‘Emotion’ gegeben wurde, dachte ich fast sofort an das Lächeln auf den Gesichtern dieser Leute. Sie sind eigentlich alle Mitwirkende an diesem Blog. Ganz links ist Friedhelm, dann Dorothy und schließlich eines unserer neuesten Mitglieder, Valerie. Es war ein großartiger Tag und ich hoffe, wir können es bald wieder tun.

Taft Point

The smoke in Yosemite Valley was fairly heavy, it was better higher up at Taft Point a place I’ve never been before. This photo shows a couple of items that made me think ‘how did that happen’. How did that large rock end up there this high up and how does that tree survive without any noticeable soil or water source.


Der Rauch im Yosemite Valley war ziemlich stark, es war besser höher am Taft Point, einem Ort, an dem ich noch nie zuvor gewesen bin. Dieses Foto zeigt einige Dinge, die mich zum Nachdenken gebracht haben, wie das passiert ist. Wie ist dieser große Stein so hoch oben gelandet und wie überlebt dieser Baum ohne erkennbare Erde oder Wasserquelle?

Great Egret

I went to the Merced Wildlife Refuge the other day. They’ve just started flooding the refuge in anticipation of the migratory birds coming in. Right now there weren’t very many birds. The Great Egrets were the best represented species and were busy hunting the newly flooded fields. This one had just taken off while a couple in the background continued to hunt.

Ich war neulich im Merced Wildlife Refuge. Sie haben gerade angefangen, die Zuflucht zu überfluten, in Erwartung der Zugvögel. Im Moment gab es nicht sehr viele Vögel. Smoke

I recently went to Northern California both for work and pleasure. While traveling north I encountered heavy smoke almost the whole way. This is looking west just south of Redding. Though it looked like as I headed west toward Eureka and the coast I might get away from some of the smoke it didn’t happen. When I got to Eureka the smoke was the heaviest I’ve ever seen.

Ich war vor kurzem in Nordkalifornien, sowohl zur Arbeit als auch zum Vergnügen. Auf meiner Reise nach Norden stieß ich fast den ganzen Weg auf starken Rauch. Dies ist ein Blick nach Westen südlich von Redding. Obwohl es so aussah, als würde ich nach Westen in Richtung Eureka und zur Küste fahren, könnte ich etwas von dem Rauch wegkommen, den es nicht gab. Als ich in Eureka ankam, war der Rauch der schwerste, den ich je gesehen habe.

Sierras

I live near some pretty spectacular and varied sites. From mountain tops to valley farms to the Pacific Ocean, Central California has it all. This one is from near Donnell Reservoir in the high Sierras. Unfortunately some of this is being taken away by careless people starting wildland fires. Think people, THINK.

Ich lebe in der Nähe einiger ziemlich spektakulärer und abwechslungsreicher Orte. Von Berggipfeln über Talfarmen bis hin zum Pazifik bietet Zentralkalifornien alles. Dieser ist aus der Nähe des Donnell-Stausees in den hohen Sierras. Leider wird ein Teil davon von sorglosen Menschen weggenommen, die Waldbrände auslösen. Denken Sie Leute, DENKEN Sie.

Old Equipment

I like old things, locomotives, equipment, buildings and the like. Except for locomotives Bodie gives me plenty of opportunities to photograph such things. Each time I go there I try and take a little different perspective and learn from past ‘mistakes’.

Ich mag alte Sachen, Lokomotiven, Ausrüstung, Gebäude und dergleichen. Mit Ausnahme von Lokomotiven bietet Bodie mir viele Möglichkeiten, solche Dinge zu fotografieren. Jedes Mal, wenn ich dorthin gehe, versuche ich, eine etwas andere Perspektive einzunehmen und aus früheren „Fehlern“ zu lernen.

Fawn Lily

One of the advantages of having a camera with you is if you’re on a hike and get a little tired you can stop and photograph. I was lucky coming up the hill from visiting the Tuolumne Grove of Redwoods that if you looked around there were numerous opportunities, you just had to look for them. This is a Fawn Lily and I only saw a few in a small area.

Einer der Vorteile einer Kamera ist, dass Sie anhalten und fotografieren können, wenn Sie auf einer Wanderung sind und etwas müde werden. Ich hatte das Glück, den Hügel hinauf zu kommen, als ich den Tuolumne Grove of Redwoods besuchte. Wenn man sich umsah, gab es zahlreiche Möglichkeiten, man musste nur nach ihnen suchen. Dies ist eine Rehkitzlilie und ich habe nur wenige auf kleinem Raum gesehen.

Inland from the Coast

On my walk from the highway towards Point Lobos I missed this flower entirely. Coming back out I found these flowers in just a small area inland protected from the ravages the coast has to offer.

Auf meinem Weg von der Autobahn in Richtung Point Lobos habe ich diese Blume völlig vermisst. Als ich zurückkam, fand ich diese Blumen in einem kleinen Gebiet im Landesinneren, das vor den Verwüstungen der Küste geschützt war.

Baby Thistle

Went to see and photograph the Perseid Meteor Shower. I was so successful that I’m posting this instead. I had more luck with things that were on the ground.

Wir haben den Perseiden-Meteorschauer gesehen und fotografiert. Ich war so erfolgreich, dass ich dies stattdessen poste. Ich hatte mehr Glück mit Dingen, die vor Ort waren.

Pelicans

While at the Central Coast I saw a lot of Pelicans fly by. Usually in groups of three. I wondered where they could all be going. I turned a corner to a sheltered part of a cove and got my answer. This is just a small number of those occupying the various trees in the area.

Während ich an der Central Coast war, sah ich viele Pelikane vorbeifliegen. Normalerweise in Dreiergruppen. Ich fragte mich, wohin sie alle gehen könnten. Ich bog um eine Ecke zu einem geschützten Teil einer Bucht und bekam meine Antwort. Dies ist nur eine kleine Anzahl von Personen, die die verschiedenen Bäume in der Gegend besetzen.
