Another post from our trip to Columbia. You have to look a little closer at this one. You’ll notice in the background is one of the blacksmiths, his form mimicking the artist metalwork in the foreground.
Ein weiterer Beitrag von unserer Reise nach Columbia. Sie müssen dieses etwas näher betrachten. Im Hintergrund ist einer der Schmiede zu sehen, dessen Form die künstlerische Metallarbeit im Vordergrund bildet.
Friedhelm and I went to Columbia State Park last Saturday. It’s an old gold rush town that has a very active commercial presence. Some of the other times I’ve gone there, during the week, there were fewer people and demonstrations going on. This time a candle maker caught my eye.
Friedhelm und ich waren letzten Samstag im Columbia State Park. Es ist eine alte Goldgräberstadt, die eine sehr aktive kommerzielle Präsenz hat. Andere Male bin ich während der Woche dort gewesen, es gibt weniger Leute und Demonstrationen. Diesmal fiel mir ein Kerzenhersteller auf.
I went to Death Valley a couple of weeks ago. I was amazed at the wide variety of landscapes and rock formations. I always had the impression that is was a pretty bland area. It is in fact very varied and a great place for photography. This one is from the Golden Canyon, a great and not to strenuous hike, went there twice, with lots of interesting rock formations.
Ich bin vor ein paar Wochen ins Death Valley gegangen. Ich war erstaunt über die vielfältigen Landschaften und Felsformationen. Ich hatte immer den Eindruck, dass es eine ziemlich fade Gegend ist. Es ist in der Tat sehr abwechslungsreich und ein großartiger Ort für die Fotografie. Dieser ist aus dem Golden Canyon, eine tolle und nicht zu anstrengende Wanderung, die zweimal mit interessanten Felsformationen dorthin ging.
I recently went to Death Valley, it was quite and experience. Lots to see. On the way out I spotted this cactus backlit by the morning sun.

I was surprised to look out my kitchen window the other day. I have several bird feeders, including a few for Humming birds. It’s fun and relaxing to watch the birds flit around. I have seen several types but have never seen a hawk. This one is a juvenile Coopers Hawk. I’m wondering if it was waiting for a hummingbird snack.
Ich war überrascht, neulich aus meinem Küchenfenster zu schauen. Ich habe mehrere Vogelfutterautomaten, darunter auch einige für Kolibris. Es ist lustig und entspannend zu sehen, wie die Vögel herumflitzen. Ich habe mehrere Typen gesehen, aber noch nie einen Falken gesehen. Dies ist ein jugendlicher Coopers Hawk. Ich frage mich, ob es auf einen Hummingbird-Snack wartete.
Friedhelm and I went to the Basilica of San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo Mission, more easily said and the Carmel Mission. There were a number of flowers blooming, this one caught my eye not only for the structure but also the vibrant background. If you’re in the area (or need a destination) this is a great place to photograph, both for the mission and the flowers.
Friedhelm und ich gingen in die Basilika der Mission San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo. Es blühte eine Reihe von Blumen, diese fiel mir nicht nur auf die Struktur, sondern auch auf den lebendigen Hintergrund auf. My local Costco had orchids available for the Christmas season. Last week they had some leftovers @ half price. Brought one home and so far it’s doing very well and I thought I’d share.

I took this while visiting the Chaffee Zoo in Fresno. A very colorful and showy bird indeed.

I actually took this one a couple of years ago. It’s not photo-shopped. The geese were flying high and I was actually trying to get a full moon shot. Lucky timing. It is pretty heavily cropped.

I know it’s probably a little early to think about spring and warmer weather but my house has been without heat for several days now. So if I can’t have warmer weather, I can at least dream about it.
