Flechtingen

Last Monday I was once again on a discovery tour through our neighboring state of Saxony-Anhalt. In the small village of Flechtingen there is this beautiful castle complex, located in the middle of a lake. Originally built around 1307 as a moated castle, it was rebuilt into a castle in the 15th century. The castle is privately owned and can only be viewed from the outside. But you can use the huge castle park for a walk.

Boat Spotting

Rotterdam is Europe’s biggest port. A long peninsula separates the two entrances and is a fantastic place for boat spotting. The northern entrance leads to the older inner port and is mainly used by river boats and container ships. The southern entrance leads into the ore and coal port and the oil terminal and sees the big tankers and bulk cargo ships carrying more than 200.000 tons of ore. Some people spend whole days there, but sometimes the air from the refineries and industry is so bad that it gives you a headache

Something A Little Different.

While driving by a neighborhood pond this small piece of natural sculpture caught my eye. Thinking I might have found a new variety of flora I stopped to investigate it further. It was almost dark but my camera view showed me something that looked interesting so I too some shots hoping for a non-shaky picture and I was happy with the results. It is a wild wheat grass stalk with what I believe is a feather caught on it. I thought it looked kind of cool. Enjoy your day and stay healthy

Tufas, Mono Lake CA

The South Tufas are the most popular area on Mono Lake. A nice maintained path and numerous plaques giving you information about the lake and it’s environs. If you take a little different road going in you can access a completely different group of Tufas that are to the left of the ‘tourist’ one. The path (if you want to call it that) is not maintained. One of the benefits of these Tufas is that no-one has climbed all over them since they’re surrounded by water and harder to get to.

Drive-By-Shooting

Being on a road trip there are moments where you see something interesting to photograph for a second while driving by. Whenever I am in the passenger seat, I try once in a while to take a picture right through the car window.

The first photo is an abandoned gas station close to the Monument Valley in Arizona.

Well…and there is one of my copilots “Wolfie”

Wolfie

Driving through Utah, frequently abandoned houses are lined up along the road. Here, an entire church. I wonder what happened…?
