Brunnenskulpturen

Wernigerode, located on the northern edge of the Harz Mountains, is a beautiful old town with many half-timbered houses and a castle towering over the town. Surprisingly, however, you can also find many modern works of art that integrate perfectly into their surroundings. Like yesterday’s “Turmschnecke” by Anke, or here the fountain on Nicolaiplatz in the heart of Wernigerode. The fountain, designed by Prof. Bernd Göbel, shows a piece of the branch of life with scenes of the history of Wernigerode and in the background St. Nicholas. On his shoulder is written: The more you give, the richer you become.

Turmschnecke

This bronze sculpture by sculptor Gernot Rumpf is located in the old town of Wernigerode. Throughout the city center you can find numerous other sculptures by various artists. It is worth walking through the city with open eyes.

Past and Present

I always was a big fan of trains. But while I enjoy events like the one I have tried to describe last week, I feel sorry for the contrast between the past and the present state of much of the railway infrastructure. Many of the stations, built with utmost care and an eye for details and ornaments, have fallen into disrepair and are boarded up. Here a steam train pulls into the station of Trier Karthaus, once an important junction, which today looks like a complete mess.

Great Egret

They’re just starting to flood the Merced Wildlife Refuge which gives the Great Egrets plenty of critters to hunt for. This one was very accommodating, I really wanted it to take off since the others I photographed flying all flew away from me. This one was quite content to just stare back at me.

Wildfire Impact

I thought I would like to do some photoshopping, creating the illusion of a wildfire that just happened. The original photo was taken at the Brice Canyon, depicting a forest indeed burned by a wildfire. I had two wild fires going through my ranch and consequently, vividly remember the eerie glow of the sun breaking through smoke and suspended ash particles in the air.

Just after the Fire rolled through the Forrest

Next, the power of Nature reclaiming the burned forrest with all the burned and dead trees still standing.
