Lone Cypress

The Lone Cypress is located along the Monterey Peninsula. A beautiful icon of this area, it is a Monteray Cypress, located only along this area of the coast and estimated to be about 250 years old. I feel very fortunate to have photographed it before a storm in 2019 broke it apart. It will always remain an icon of the strength of these trees to withstand major storms. Enjoy your day.

Death Valley

I went to Death Valley a couple of weeks ago. I was amazed at the wide variety of landscapes and rock formations. I always had the impression that is was a pretty bland area. It is in fact very varied and a great place for photography. This one is from the Golden Canyon, a great and not to strenuous hike, went there twice, with lots of interesting rock formations.

Ich bin vor ein paar Wochen ins Death Valley gegangen. Ich war erstaunt über die vielfältigen Landschaften und Felsformationen. Ich hatte immer den Eindruck, dass es eine ziemlich fade Gegend ist. Es ist in der Tat sehr abwechslungsreich und ein großartiger Ort für die Fotografie. Dieser ist aus dem Golden Canyon, eine tolle und nicht zu anstrengende Wanderung, die zweimal mit interessanten Felsformationen dorthin ging.

Kratzbürste

Auch verblühte Pflanzen haben ihren Reiz. Diese Pflanze sieht aus wie eine Distel, ist aber eine “wilde Karde”. Wenn sie blüht ist ihr Kopf mit winzigen hellblauen Blüten besetzt. Getrocknet wurde sie früher auch als Heilpflanze zur Stärkung des Immunsystems genutzt. Sogar gegen Warzen soll sie helfen.

Even withered plants have their charm. This plant looks like a thistle, but is a “wild card”. When it blooms, its head is covered with tiny light blue flowers. Once dried, it was also used as a medicinal plant to strengthen the immune system. It is even said to help against warts.
