Die Lübbensteine

In der Nähe unserer Nachbarstadt Helmstedt gibt es die “Lübbensteine”, eine ca. 6.000 Jahre alte Großgrabanlage. Diese Gräber darf man sich nicht als Fürstengräber vorstellen, sondern sie waren eher Familiengruften, die über Jahrhunderte in Gebrauch waren. Es ist schon beeindruckend , wenn man bedenkt, dass diese tonnenschweren Steine von den Menschen seinerzeit nur mit Muskelkraft bewegt worden sind. Das untere Bild zeigt das Innere der nördlichen Grabanlage.
Near our neighboring town of Helmstedt there are the “Lübbensteine”, a large grave complex about 6,000 years old. These graves must not be imagined as princely tombs, but they were rather family crypts, which were in use for centuries. It is impressive to think that these stones, weighing tons, were moved by the people of that time only with muscle power. The picture below shows the interior of the northern tomb.

Urlaubsfeeling

Weil es vermutlich noch eine ganze Weile dauern wird, bis ich wieder meine Lieblingsreiseziele ansteuern kann, habe ich einmal mehr in alten Urlaubserinnerungen gestöbert. Dieses Foto habe ich während meines letzten Urlaubs in Inveraray/Schottland gemacht.
Because it will probably take quite a while until I can head for my favorite travel destinations again, I once again rummaged through old vacation memories. I took this photo during my last vacation in Inveraray/Scotland.

Crop Duster

Living in an agricultural area crop dusters flying low and slow is just part of the daily routine. A lot of skill is required to avoid little obstacles like trees and power lines. Usually I only see them on days with very little wind. But when I took this photo the wind was about 15 mph. I was hoping to get an image of the liquid swirling behind the plane, but with that wind there wasn’t anything to see and he was flying at some distance from me. By the way I’ve been told one of these planes can cost up to $1million dollars.

Das Leben in einem landwirtschaftlichen Gebiet ist nur ein Teil des Tagesablaufs. Um kleine Hindernisse wie Bäume und Stromleitungen zu vermeiden, ist viel Geschick erforderlich. Normalerweise sehe ich sie nur an Tagen mit sehr wenig Wind. Aber als ich dieses Foto machte, war der Wind ungefähr 15 Meilen pro Stunde. Ich hatte gehofft, ein Bild von der Flüssigkeit zu bekommen, die hinter dem Flugzeug wirbelte, aber bei diesem Wind war nichts zu sehen und er flog in einiger Entfernung von mir. Übrigens wurde mir gesagt, dass eines dieser Flugzeuge bis zu 1 Million Dollar kosten kann.
