Lava Beds National Monument

I recently went to far Northern California with the intent of finding flocks of over-wintering birds-NOT-. Since that didn’t work our I drove to the Lava Beds National Monument with honestly low expectations. This is one of the least visited National Monuments because of it’s location. It had been many years (40+) since I’d gone into the caves which are actually a small part of the Monument. After I entered the first cave without my camera I turned around and got my camera, tripod and a better light. Unfortunately I didn’t bring a flash so I had to rely on my on camera flash. Ich bin kürzlich in den fernen Norden Kaliforniens gereist, mit der Absicht, Schwärme überwinternder Vögel zu finden – NICHT –. Da das nicht funktionierte, fuhr ich mit ehrlich gesagt geringen Erwartungen zum Lava Beds National Monument. Aufgrund seiner Lage ist dies eines der am wenigsten besuchten Nationaldenkmäler. Es war viele Jahre (über 40) her, seit ich die Höhlen betreten hatte, die eigentlich nur einen kleinen Teil des Denkmals darstellen. Nachdem ich die erste Höhle ohne meine Kamera betreten hatte, drehte ich mich um und holte meine Kamera, ein Stativ und ein besseres Licht. Leider hatte ich keinen Blitz dabei und musste mich auf den Blitz meiner Kamera verlassen. Es war eine sehr lohnende Erfahrung. Schräge Ansichten

Das Science Center Phaeno in Wolfsburg fasziniert mich immer wieder. Die Architektur des Gebäudes hat kaum gerade Linien. Alles wirkt wie organisch gewachsen. Dazu kommt noch das Spiel von Licht und Schatten zu den verschiedenen Tages- bzw. Jahreszeiten. Da macht das Fotografieren Spaß.

The Phaeno Science Center in Wolfsburg never ceases to fascinate me. The architecture of the building has hardly any straight lines. Everything seems to have grown organically. Then there’s the interplay of light and shadow at different times of the day and year. It makes photography fun.

Earth Eater

This gigantic bagger reminds me of a Mississippi shuffle boat, making its way through the waves. Here the shuffle wheel is at the bow of the Earth Eater, which is digging for “brown coal”. At the horizon the new time of energy generation is already appearing in the shape of wind turbines. Germany has decided to step out of coal mining within our country by 2030.
